THE Lunar New Year will be celebrated with an annual community and family festival at the Sakyamuni Buddhist Centre in Lyneham on Lunar New Year’s Eve on Monday, January 31.
2022 represents the Year of the Tiger, an animal that symbolises strength, power and prosperity and organisers of the annual celebrations say that this year’s festival will feature vegetarian food stalls, music, dancing and crackers from 6pm until late.
“All are welcome to come and celebrate,” says Abbot Thich Quang Ba, who is the founding president of the United Vietnamese Buddhist Congregation of Canberra.
“Come along from 6pm to enjoy yummy vegetarian delights, explore the many shrines and watch our Lion Dance performances at 9.30pm and 11.55pm to ring in the Lunar New Year!”
The celebrations will feature loud and colourful performances by Prosperous Mountain Dragon and Lion Dance, Canberra’s only non-profit, volunteer, community-focused dragon and lion dance troupe.
