Government affirms Lunar New Year Festival

WITH the promise of a “covid-safe kaleidoscope of colour, sound, tastes and aromas”, the City Renewal Authority is hosting the Lunar New Year Festival over three consecutive weekends in Woolley Street, Dickson, with the first running from Thursday, January 27, to the eve of Lunar New Year on Monday, January 31.

The celebration to welcome the Year of the Water Tiger will include musical performances, dance and martial arts displays, workshops

Chief Minister Andrew Barr said that being able to celebrate Lunar New Year in this way was important for the community.

“Holding the celebration over multiple weekends as a distributed event rather than one big street festival maximises covid-safety as well as benefits to local businesses and the community,” he said.

Authority CEO Malcolm Snow described the street festival as “a safe, fun and enjoyable way to support small businesses while celebrating our community’s cultural diversity and activating Dickson”.

An upgrade of Woolley Street was set to commence after the event concludes in February.
