Three areas of the Australian War Memorial were daubed with pro-Palestine signs in the early hours of Friday morning.
A man was caught on CCTV at around 1am. He was wearing a black jumper, a black face covering and khaki pants with dark knee patches. Police believe he is responsible for the graffiti at the memorial.
A/Insp Lisa Broomhall says criminal damage such as this on a national institution will not be tolerated.
“Police are very disappointed this morning to see a national institution, which holds a special significance to many, being vandalised,” she says.
“While peaceful protest is part of healthy democracy, criminal acts will not be tolerated.”
Anyone who can identify the man should call 1800 333000 or via the Crime Stoppers ACT website.
