Another milestone in the hospital’s endless works

canberra hospital

CHIEF Minister Katy Gallagher has visited the newly refurbished wards of Building 1 at Canberra Hospital.

The refurbishment of Level 5 is the first step in making room for the relocation of services to enable future redevelopment on the hospital campus.

“Level 5 of Building 1 was previously home to paediatric outpatient services, which moved into their new location in the Centenary Hospital for Women and Children in 2012,” Katy said.

“Since then, it has been completely refurbished to provide space for 60 additional surgical beds in Wards 5A and 5B.

“Orthopaedic services will be the first area to move to the new ward on September 2. It’s planned that other surgical services such as plastic surgery, and oral and maxillofacial surgery services will also move to Level 5 later this year.

“The construction budget for the refurbishment was $11.669 million.”
