Brown water after Macarthur water main burst

glass of water

A water main in Macarthur has burst overnight with a large amount of water lost to the area, and patches of water discolouration expected around the surrounding suburbs – Fadden, Gowrie, Gilmore Wanniassa, Chisholm – for most of today.

Residents are asked to minimise their water usage for today as much as they can, until the reservoir has been refilled following repairs to the main.

ACTEW Water crews are currently at the scene of the burst main and are undertaking repairs. ACTEW has already been advised that some residents in the area are experiencing discoloured water.

Residents are advised not to use washing machines and dishwashers during this period of possible water discolouration, as it may stain clothing or clog filters.

Whilst it is difficult to predict to what degree the water will be affected, ACTEW Water advises that any discolouration will clear with normal use throughout the day. If residents experience ongoing discolouration beyond this evening, please contact the ACTEW Water customer helpline on 6248 3111.
