THE National Capital Authority is warning people to stay out of Lake Burley Griffin due to a high level of blue-green algae in the lake.
According to the NCA, exposure to these levels of blue-green algae carries an increased risk of adverse health effects.
All parts of Lake Burley Griffin will be closed to whole-body water contact or the submersion of the head. The East Basin and Black Mountain Beach will remain open despite a medium alert for blue-green algae at Black Mountain Beach.
NCA says although this site remains open, there is an increased risk for skin irritations and gastrointestinal illness in this area.
Pet owners are also warned not to allow their animals to swim in or drink lake water.
