AN emergency warning is in place for the fires that are spreading quickly in a south-easterly direction towards Bredbo and Michelago, which have started as a result of the Orroral Valley fire in the ACT.
The NSW Rural Fire Service is warning of an immediate threat to properties and lives in the areas of Colinton, Michelago and Bredbo, to Canberra’s south, as conditions deteriorate.
The RFS says it is too late to leave for people in the area of Colinton, Michelago and Bredbo and that they should seek shelter as the Clear Range Fire approaches.
“Protect yourself from the heat of the fire by sheltering in a solid structure,” it says.
“If you are away from the area, you will not be able to return. The Monaro Highway is closed.”
Firefighters and aircraft are working to slow the spread of these fires where possible.
