DAVE Peffer has stepped in to lead Canberra Health Services as the interim chief executive while the recruitment process for the top job is underway.
Mr Peffer, formerly the deputy chief executive of Canberra Health Services, was asked to take on the role following the resignation of Berndadette McDonald.
Ms McDonald, resigned in May, less than three-years into the job as CEO.
She adds to the list of health service bosses to quit including interim CEO, Janet Anderson, who lasted three days in the role.
Canberra’s public health system has come under intense scrutiny, in recent years, in regards to its workplace culture, leading ACT Health to split into two organisations in 2018.
Mr Peffer’s appointment as interim CEO comes at a time of uncertainty within the global health climate.
A spokesperson for Canberra Health Services said Mr Peffer played a key role in the ACT’s COVID-19 response as the main driving force behind the Surge Centre at Garran.
“He also played a leading role in ensuring the ACT has been able to source and maintain supply of appropriate personal protective equipment,” the spokesperson said.
“Dave’s leadership has been critical to the successful rollout and operation of the ACT’s efficient and accessible COVID-19 testing and vaccination clinics.”
Prior to joining Canberra Health Services in 2019, Mr Peffer held senior executive roles in the ACT Health Directorate, Suburban Land Agency, Community Services Directorate, Environment, Planning and Sustainable Development Directorate and Access Canberra.
“CityNews” understands a new CEO should be announced in the coming weeks.
