Four new covid cases in Canberra

FOUR new cases of COVID-19 were recorded in the ACT in the 24 hours to 8pm last night (December eighth).

While new cases continue to come in by the day, the territory’s total active case numbers have been on a decline throughout the week, now down to 76 from 110 on Sunday (December 5).

The newest epidemiological data from ACT Health also shows that Canberra’s seven day rolling case average has dropped to 3.6, with a total of 40 cases recorded in the week from November 29 – December 5, down from 71 in the week prior.

There are currently five people in ACT hospitals as a result of the virus, two of which are in intensive care and none are on ventilators.

Based on data available, there have been 156 people with COVID-19 hospitalised since August 2021, 44 of those requiring intensive care treatment. Of these 44, five have been fully vaccinated.

According to ACT Health’s most recent figures, 98.1 per cent of Canberrans over the age of 12 have been fully vaccinated against the virus.

Since November 1 there have now been 37 school locations where a case has attended the location during their infectious period (where a school has a junior and senior campus, these are counted separately as 2 locations). This is up from 26 last week.

Transmission onsite has still only occurred at five school locations.

A list of the affected schools and other exposure sites can be found here.
