Child witness offered money for false statement

An 18-year-old Canberra man is facing court charged with offering money to a child to make a false statement to police.

It follows an incident in May, when a 19-year-old McKellar man was charged with committing an act of indecency against a 14-year-old girl and supplying her with cannabis.

Police arrested the 18-year-old Dunlop man yesterday (November 17) after an investigation found he contacted a child witness to the incident, and offered the child $500 to provide a false statement to police.

He will front court today facing one count of accessory after the fact.
