New covid cases fall but hospital numbers rise

ACT Health has recorded another fall in new cases of COVID-19, however hospital numbers have increased.

There were 701 new cases of covid reported today (March 28). 323 were detected by PCR tests and 378 were detected by RATs.

There are now 5491 total active cases in the territory, and there have been 74,017 cases in Canberra since the beginning of the pandemic.

Hospital numbers have hit their highest in more than a month, with 46 people currently hospitalised in Canberra with the virus. Four of these people are in intensive care and none are on ventilators

According to the most recent vaccine data available, 97.2 per cent of ACT residents aged five and over have had two doses. 72.4 per cent of people aged 16 and over have had a booster dose.

Meanwhile, in southern NSW there were 308 cases recorded today, 101 of which were detected in Queanbeyan-Palerang.
