‘Canberra Monopoly’ calls for destinations

The Canberra ‘Monopoly’ tease on Facebook.

AS confirmation of our daunting property prices perhaps, Canberra is to get its own edition of the “Monopoly” board game.

Expected to be on sale in March, from Wednesday Canberrans are invited to have a say in what destinations they’d like to see on the board.

“The edition will see locally themed squares replace Mayfair and Park Lane from the original London ‘Monopoly’ board and include a customised ‘Community Chest’ and ‘Chance’ playing cards, immortalising all that is spectacular about Canberra,” said Dale Hackett, from manufacturer Winning Moves.

“We’ve wanted to create a Canberra ‘Monopoly’ edition for some time and are thrilled to finally be able to kick this special project off.

“It’s a place known for its heritage landmarks, but over the year’s has also developed a dynamic cultural scene we are keen to showcase. Whether you’re wanting to spotlight the Australian War Museum, Parliament House, or local favourite Edgar’s Inn, we’re open to it all!”

“Monopoly” was first played in 1935 – since then it has been played by more than 1 billion people.
