I really like Paul Dorin’s cartoons. The ‘before’ and ‘after’ the Voice referendum is very subtle. I just see a slight narrowing of the eyes of both the man and the woman. Is that significant?

I too always enjoy Paul Dorin’s cartoons, but this one has me bothered somewhat. Is it fair to portray indigenous Australians sitting around in the dirt, dressed slovenly and looking destitute? Sure, some of them do live like that, but it’s a stereotype that surely has long gone. All the public speakers and interviewees we’ve seen in the media, speaking on the voice campaign are dressed beautifully, speak very well and present as civilised Australians. I see indigenous Australians in my travels around Canberra and further afield all the time who are also respectable looking members of society.
