THE Governor-General, David Hurley, and his wife will visit Vietnam next week in recognition of the 50th anniversary of bilateral relations between the two countries.
The April 3-6 visit will include meetings with the President Vo Van Thuong; Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong.
Government House says the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley will attend events in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City “to recognise and celebrate the strong trade, cultural and people-to-people links between Australia and Vietnam”.
Governor of Victoria Linda Dessau will serve as administrator in Governor-General Hurley’s absence.
