P-plater clocked at 157 clicks on highway

A PROVISIONAL driver, not displaying P-plates, was booked on Saturday evening on the Monaro Highway, Symonston, for driving at 157km/h in a 100km/h zone.

The 19-year-old was issued an Immediate Suspension Notice, which suspends her right to drive in the ACT for 90 days. She was also fined $1841 and an additional $213 for not displaying P-plates and accrued six demerit points.

She was one of four P-platers caught speeding by police over the weekend.

The other three were driving in convoy along Parks Way, Acton, on Saturday night. One, a Ford Ranger, was towing another vehicle on a car trailer.

Police detected all three driving at 128km/h along the 90km/h zone.

They have each been fined $700 and accrued four demerit points, which will suspend their licences for 90 days.

Glad they caught them. Now I just wish they’d catch the idiots that go past here at ridiculous speeds, before someone is killed or injured. So far, they’ve just been lucky that there’s been no-one there as they tear around the blind corner. We keep seeing our massive steel light posts out front totally wiped out and broken off at the base, so it doesn’t take much imagination to know what would happen to a human being who was crossing the road or nearby at the time.

Canberra residents are not safe from stupid selfish car drivers. We need more speed cameras, given we have a shortage of police out there. This is not about revenue raising, but the safety of residents and visitors using our roads and footpaths.
