Severe thunderstorm sweeps across Canberra

UPDATE: 4.08pm: The Bureau of Meteorology has cancelled the severe weather warning, saying severe thunderstorms are no longer affecting Canberra and Queanbeyan. The immediate threat of severe thunderstorms has passed.

THE Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for the ACT. 

Canberrans will likely see damaging winds and showers throughout the afternoon.

If it is safe to do so, the ACT State Emergency Service advises the community to:
Move your car under cover or away from trees. 
– Take extra precaution when walking outside or driving
– Secure or put away loose items that are outside
– Monitor the conditions, stay up to date with weather warnings through www.bom.gov.au
