FORECASTED heavy rainfall from late Saturday into Sunday may lead to flash flooding along the coast between Nowra and Batemans Bay, says the NSW State Emergency Service.
The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe weather warning for the Illawarra and the south coast and is predicting moderate to heavy rainfall over the southern half of the NSW coast, and winds sufficient to topple trees and powerlines.
AAP is reporting six-hourly rainfall totals of between 80 and 120mm are predicted, with strong to damaging winds of between 50 and 70km/h, and 90km/h gusts.
Areas at risk include Batemans Bay, Huskisson and Ulladulla.
Conditions are expected to ease on Sunday afternoon.
Assistant Commissioner Nicole Hogan said: “Localised flash flooding could result in roads being closed at short notice. Please do not take the risk and find an alternate route if you need to travel.
“Landslips are also possible, and I would urge the public to remain vigilant.”
There are no warnings in place for Canberra.
