A 35-year-old disqualified and drugged motorcyclist has been charged with driving and weapons offences after taking off from an RBT and failing to stop for police on Christmas Day.
At about 10 am police directed the rider to stop at a Random Breath Testing unit on Commonwealth Avenue, Civic. After initially complying, police allege he took off at speed and crossed to the wrong side of the road.
Police estimate the rider was doing 120km/h, weaving in and out of traffic.
The stationary motorcycle was found in the gardens of Parliament House, with the man picked up a short time later on Hobart Avenue, Forrest.
A search revealed he was carrying two firearms – one loaded – a knife, and drugs.
A roadside alcohol and drug screening test returned a positive result for the presence of drugs.
The man has been charged with driving while disqualified, failing to stop for police, exceeding the speed limit, driving with a prescribed drug in his oral fluid, numberplate issued for another vehicle, possessing a prohibited firearm, possessing ammunition, using an unregistered vehicle, using an uninsured vehicle, and failing to keep left on a two-way road.
