A 27-year-old man has been charged with firearms and driving offences after police pulled him over in Palmerston on Thursday evening.

At about 5.10pm police stopped the driver where he was identified to have an outstanding arrest warrant and his licence was suspended. Checks on his vehicle also showed it was unregistered and uninsured.

In a subsequent search, police seized items including two prohibited knives and a number of shotgun cartridges from the vehicle.

Police then searched his Palmerston home and seized:

  • a sawn-off shotgun;
  • an imitation handgun and magazine;
  • ammunition; and
  • a small amount of suspected steroids.

Police charged the Palmerston man with multiple firearms and weapons offences, possession of anabolic steroids, driving while suspended, driving an unregistered and uninsured vehicle, and failing to appear in court after a bail undertaking.
