A car fire in Beard, on Saturday afternoon burnt out 2.5 hectares of grassland, which was directly behind an electrical substation and solar battery storage facility.
ACT Fire & Rescue was able to contain the alerted to the fire on Mountain Road.
Police believe the burnt out car was most likely was a Kia Sportage. Police have not been able to confirm an engine or chassis number due to the extensive damage caused by the fire. Nor do they have any related reports of a stolen Kia Sportage in ACT or surrounding NSW police districts.
The vehicle was stuck in tall grass on the edge of Mountain Road, and police think it’s possible the vehicle’s exhaust caused the fire, which engulfed it.
Anyone who may have witnessed the fire, has information about its cause or has dash-cam footage should call 1800 333000, or via the Crime Stoppers ACT website.
