Police and child assaulted in Belconnen fracas

A 47-year-old woman was arrested after allegedly assaulting police and a child during a family violence incident in Belconnen on Sunday night.

At about 7pm the woman got into an argument with her son after drinking alcohol. She attempted to leave the residence by getting in a car but was stopped by the child, concerned about her intoxicated state.

Police say neighbours also attempted to intervene and during the altercation, the woman allegedly assaulted the boy, biting, hitting and scratching him.

Police arrived and attempted to arrest her, but she resisted, throwing a punch and kicking at one officer.

She has been charged with assaulting a frontline community service provider, attempting to resist a public official and aggravated assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
