By Fraser Barton in Townsville POLICE have arrested and charged a woman with the murder last week of Bruce Martin in Townsville.

A prominent indigenous leader, Mr Martin was well known in Canberra and had been educated at Canberra Grammar School.

The woman, Nicole Candis Greer, remains in the watch house with her case briefly heard in Townsville Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

She did not apply for bail and it was formally refused.

Magistrate Ken Taylor asked for a brief of evidence with a committal mention scheduled for October 13.

Police allege that Greer entered a property early last Wednesday and seriously assaulted 39-year-old Mr Martin before leaving in a vehicle.

The alleged victim suffered critical injuries including a stab wound to his chest and died at the scene.

Detectives later arrested a 32-year-old woman and charged her with murder, entering a dwelling with intent at night in company, threatening violence and deprivation of liberty.

A 37-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday and is assisting police with their investigation.
