Alleged burglar gets bail, then arrested again

Police have arrested 32-year-old man who they allege was involved in five commercial burglaries since the beginning of August.

Police arrested the man last Friday in the foyer of a Canberra hotel and charged him with two counts of driving disqualified, driving unregistered, possessing stolen property, intimidating a public official and breaching a good behaviour order. The man was granted bail the following morning.

Police subsequently searched the man’s hotel room and a stolen Nissan Navarra in the hotel basement, that allegedly was also being used by the man, and seized a modified and prohibited rifle and ammunition.

In addition, police say the man was seen on CCTV driving a stolen black Toyota Yaris on Tuesday, contrary to his bail conditions.

He was arrested again on Thursday and charged with three counts of joint commission aggravated burglary, four counts of driving a motor vehicle without consent, two counts of possessing a prohibited weapon, possessing a firearm, possessing ammunition, five counts of driving while disqualified, two counts of joint commission theft and breaching a good behaviour order.
