Fire in Fyshwick

ACT Fire & Rescue is responding to a fire in a building on Gladstone Street Fyshwick.

10:57 AM


Firefighters have confirmed a large fire is burning inside a party hire business situated on Gladstone Street.

There has been a partial building collapse with a large amount of smoke in the area. Fire crews have started to work on extinguishing the blaze.

ACT Fire & Rescue has four fire pumpers, the Bronto aerial firefighting appliance and commander on scene.

It’s believed at this stage that all occupants have safely evacuated the building.

Firefighters are continuing to extinguish the fire from the front and rear of the building.

Fire crews have prevented the fire from spreading into the roof space at this stage and are working to stop it from reaching an adjoining business.

The ACT Ambulance Service has treated three people for minor smoke inhalation as a result of the fire.

They were assessed on scene but did not require transport to hospital.

The fire is being bought under control. An exclusion zone remains in place in the area.

12:11 PM


Firefighters are now dampening down and preparing to release some resources from the scene.

The cause of the fire will be investigated.

Intensive care paramedics from the ACT Ambulance Service have now treated a total of five people for minor smoke inhalation on scene.

The fire has been extinguished.

ACT Fire & Rescue will maintain one fire pumper on scene overnight with the ACT State Emergency Service providing a lighting tower.

An investigation into the cause will commence tomorrow.
