CANBERRANS can look forward to a free pop-up concert from local performing artists with the inaugural “Spotlight on Stars” celebration to be held at on the lawns of Parliament House on Monday.
The event is an offshoot of McDonald’s Sydney Eisteddfod, which regularly chalks up approximately 30,000 individual participants across 331 events, with about 10,000 entrants annually.
Canberra Licensee Hani Sidaros hopes that local Canberra residents will cheer on the performers and encourage even more Australians to consider entering the Eisteddfod this year. To that end, we’ll get to see two local performers, 13 year old Mikayla Brady and 13 year old Shantelle Wise.
“‘Spotlight on Stars’ is our way of supporting the performing arts and McDonald’s Sydney Eisteddfod entrants, giving them a stage to practice on before the big events kicks off next month,” says Sidaros, expressing the hope that the day will inspire other ambitious performers to consider entering.
For 26 years, McDonald’s has partnered with the Eisteddfod and on Monday, local performers across NSW and ACT will be taking to the stage in town centres and selected McDonald’s restaurants during the day.
Sadly, Canberra’s own National Eisteddfod does not rejoice in a major sponsorship of this kind and is, right now, looking for supporters to help maintain important events like the prestigious National Aria.
