StopAdani target Civic CommBank

IN the lead up to a meeting between the Commonwealth Bank and Adani, members of StopAdani will take peaceful action in its Civic branch and demand the bank’s Board rule out funding for Adani coal.

This “peaceful action” is a response to recent information, which revealed that CommBank is helping Adani facilitate the Carmichael coal mine by managing the transactions for the purchase the Indian mining giant’s water licence.

“Starting next Tuesday, we plan to take uniquely Canberran action at Civic CommBank,” says StopAdani Canberra spokesperson Eleanor Lawless.

“Armed only with our suits, brief cases and some frank and fearless advice we plan to do the community and climate a public service by peacefully protesting in the bank’s city branches and demanding the Bank’s board rule out Adani.

“#StopAdani Canberra’s bold and creative actions formed a key plank of the campaign that got Westpac to rule out Adani. We are now we are turning our attention to CommBank.

“We want the bank to know our intentions to take peaceful action inside its branches – Canberrans and people across the country will keep taking action until CommBank says no to Adani.”

Over 20 domestic and international banks have already ruled out involvement with Adani.
