Snow where else to be

WE’VE all been running out of jokes about the Third Perisher Snowy Mountains of Music Festival being the highest festival in Australia, so the organisers have come up with an incontestable claim – it’s the only music festival in Australia in the snow!
Veteran musician David De Santi has programmed more than 100 concerts across venues in Perisher Valley, Smiggin Holes and Guthega for this  snowy four-day festival of live music. Best of all, it opens the 2011 Australian winter ski season.

De Santi may be a folkie, but his choices are open-minded, with everyone from Christine Anu to Eric Bogle putting in an appearance. Proof of his eclecticism is the inclusion of intellectual punk-rockers The Go Set, who put an Australian social and political twist into their lyrics.
Who else will be there? 2010 Musicoz Awards Artist of the Year Dallas Frasca, roots/rock musicians Marshall and The Fro (you’ve seen them in the Billabong ads), tongue-in-cheek songstresses The Sunny Cowgirls, Skipping Girl Vinegar, Doc Jones and the Lechery Orchestra, Ganga Giri, Messups Puppets, The Bearded Gypsy Band, The Con Artists, The Stiff Gins (Nardi Simpson and Kaleena Briggs, who’ve just put out their new album) and The Woohoo Revue, praised for their sizzling arrangements of traditional Eastern European tunes. And about 20 more acts.
There’s even poetry. The Broken Ski Award will be awarded for the best submitted original verse, while the Snowy Poetry Cup will go to the best recited poem. Submit Broken Ski Award entries by June 8 to
Will the kids be bored? Under 15s get in free with a paying adult, but there’s also a special Family Fun Day ticket for $39 on Saturday or Sunday with entry to all venue, the kids stage, and other freebies.
