ACT Policing arrested a 25-year-old man after threatening a woman in Belconnen yesterday (Sunday, 27 March).
About 9.40am, it is alleged the man jumped into the back seat of a Toyota Corolla while it was stationary at the intersection of Crick Place and Hennessy Street in Belconnen.
He demanded that the woman driving the car to take him to Civic and then Charnwood.
The driver, who was the sole occupant of the car observed the man to be aggressive and was concerned for her safety. She complied with the demands and began driving when he reached forward and grabbed her mobile phone from the front of the car.
The driver headed towards Belconnen Police Station when the man got out and ran away with her phone.
The woman gave chase calling out for help when she observed the man try to damage her phone. He then picked up several objects nearby including a large piece of concrete and threatened to strike the woman.
Police arrived and asked him to stop, but he ran into traffic on College Street before being apprehended and taken to the ACT Watch House.
The man will face the ACT Magistrates Court this morning (28 March) on charges of property damage, assault and robbery.
Police remind people they should not report crime information via Facebook and Twitter pages.
