Opposition gaming and racing spokesman Mark Parton, who last year led the syndication of an un-raced, un-named greyhound to the first 20 takers, naturally declared Community Values’ win as a win against the Labor-Greens government.
At $300 per share, the greyhound was fully syndicated in less than hour with the syndicate and included 19 people who had never been involved in the greyhound industry before.
“The people’s dog” was named Community Values and, after three second placings, came home with what Parton describes as an “emphatic victory in very good time” in the opening race.
“They love him out there,” Parton says.
“They’ve been belted by the Labor-Greens government and this little dog gives all of them hope.
“It’s difficult to understand how ACT Labor and the Greens could get this so wrong. The lack of process and the elitist arrogance shown to these people is breathtaking.”
The Canberra Greyhound Racing Club continues to fight the greyhound ban in court and plans to move the sport to Queanbeyan should it be unsuccessful.
