P-plater clocked at 151kmph

AN 18-year-old P-plater was fined almost $2000 and lost six demerit points after he was caught driving 151kmph in Mitchell this morning (June 24).

He was clocked while driving an orange Holden Commodore sedan, which was travelling south on Gungahlin Drive, in an 80kmph zone, at about 9.20am.

Police issued the man an infringement notice for $1841 and he lost six demerit points for exceeding the speed limit by more than 45kmph.

Acting Station Sergeant David Wills says this type of behaviour is particularly disappointing from a young driver.

“Provisional drivers are some of the most inexperienced on our roads, and as such they should be taking even greater care when behind the wheel, not driving at more than 150 kilometres an hour,” he says.

“Clearly this driver had other ideas, and thankfully nobody else is paying for his poor judgement.”
