Brass stolen from Acton park for the second time

“HIGHLY sought after” brass fittings have been stolen from seats at Henry Rolland Park for the second time in two years.

ACT government alerted police to the removal of the brass in the Acton park on September 30, and about a month later, a 41-year-old man was arrested following a police search in a Kambah home at Seymour Place yesterday (November 4).

After the brass was stolen the first time in late 2018, the government put more CCTV cameras in the area, which Detective Sergeant Jason Dziubinski, who’s part of ACT Policing’s proactive intervention and disruption team, says helped police investigate.

The footage led cops to the 41-year-old, who was seen removing the brass fittings from the seats located in the park and leaving in a vehicle, later identified as his brother’s car.

Detective Sergeant Jason Dziubinski says: “Brass is a highly sought after item and people buying second-hand equipment of this value should always question where it has come from.”

The man has been charged with theft and will appear before ACT Magistrates Court in January.

Anyone with information that could assist police is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333000, or via the Crime Stoppers ACT website quoting reference number 6639761.
