Unit fire forces Downer residents to evacuate

NINE residents were forced to self-evacuate after a fire started in a Downer unit this afternoon (August 3).

The fire has been extinguished and was contained to the kitchen area of a second-floor unit on Antill Street, but the ACT Emergency Services Agency (ACT ESA) is urging the community to avoid the area.

No injuries have been reported, but police, paramedics and firefighters remain at the scene.
