Fires force ‘Q&A’ from Bega to Queanbeyan

New “Q&A” host Hamish McDonald… debut in Queanbeyan.

The ABC moved production of new host Hamish McDonald’s debut on the panel show “Q&A” on Monday (February 3, 9.35pm) to Queanbeyan due to the ongoing bushfire crisis.

The show was originally planned to be broadcast from the Bega Showgrounds on the south coast focusing on the bushfires, but the location is being used once again as an evacuation centre in the face of more fires.

In an email to intending audience members, MacDonald wrote: “We respect the fact that your community is facing extreme challenges once again.

“Our thoughts are with you as you endure another high fire danger period. You, the people of Bega and surrounds are more important than ever so we’re looking forward to receiving your questions.

“We are relocating the show to the Queanbeyan Performing Arts Centre to ensure safety and will let you know over the weekend how we may be able to involve you in our broadcast”.

On the panel on Monday night from the Queanbeyan Performing Arts Centre will be Kristy McBain, mayor of Bega Valley Shire; Andrew Constance, Member for Bega; Victor Steffensen, indigenous fire practitioner; Cheryl McCarthy, far south coast director, Surf Life Saving NSW; Michael Mann, renowned US climate scientist and Jim Molan, Liberal senator for NSW.
