CANBERRANS could save about $33,000 on their first home under a Canberra Liberals government, says leader Alistair Coe.

To give first home buyers extra help and to kick-start the construction sector, the Canberra Liberals say they’ll save first home buyers $25,000 on the sale price of blocks of land released by the Suburban Land Agency throughout 2021.

This will extend the amount and timing of assistance available to first home buyers in the ACT after the Commonwealth’s HomeBuilder grant expires on December 31, the party says.

A Canberra Liberals spokesperson says the $25,000 credit in addition to stamp duty concessions means many Canberrans will save $33,000 on their first home.

Following this announcement, the Master Builders ACT CEO Michael Hopkins welcomed the announcement, saying residential builders are facing one of the toughest economic downturns in history.
