POLICE rescued a “visibly unwell” pig during a raid, which saw them seize more than $500,000 of stolen property at a rural property, about 20km east of Bungendore, on Monday (August 10).
Officers were led to search the property — where they found the pig, which is now in the hands of RSPCA — during an investigation into the alleged theft of livestock trailers in the local area.
During the search of the property on Mulloon Road, Mulloon, investigators seized four prohibited firearms, a .22 calibre rifle (believed to be stolen), a 12-guage shotgun and six boxes of ammunition.
They also seized 17 vehicles, a prime mover trailer, a boat, caravan, a bobcat, electric bicycle and two trailers — also believed to have been stolen.
A 50-year-old man was arrested and taken to Queanbeyan Police Station where he was charged with: two counts of possessing an unregistered firearm; not keeping a firearm safely; possessing ammunition without holding a licence/permit/authority; receiving property from thefts – serious indictable offence; and, receiving motor vehicle parts from thefts – serious indictable offence.
He will face charges at the Queanbeyan Local Court on Tuesday (October 5).
