“A MIGRANT’S Son” by Michaela Burger, pays tribute to the artist’s Greek migrant family and hard-working, fun-loving larrikin father, traversing 100 years and featuring six of Burger’s original songs and a live band. THE 13th year of the “SoundOut” explorative sound, film and visual art festival is coming up at ANU, Drill Hall Gallery from June 17 – 19 , this time with funding. Leading the unconventional line-up will be percussive artist from Queensland Conservatorium Research Centre, Vanessa Tomlinson, on vibraphone in the duo Clocked Out with Erik Griswold on piano. CANBERRA-Gunning creative producer, Dianna Nixon, has now launched the official website of Music Theatre Projects Ltd, which is behind the Millicent Armstrong play project and an original new musical called “Camelia”, exploring the life and times of an Egyptian actress. NATIONAL Opera is returning with a “pocket” version of Mozart’s comic opera “Così Fan Tutte”, with Canberra Sinfonia playing. Erika Tolano gets the plum part of conniving servant Despina, while Don Christopher, best known for his roles with Deborah Cheetham’s Short Black Opera, plays Don Alfonso.
