Pocock on cusp of historic ACT Senate win

FORMER Wallabies captain David Pocock looks set to make history and become the first ACT senator from a minor party.

Although senate votes continue to be counted, the Independent is likely to unseat Liberal senator Zed Seselja.

Katy Gallagher – sworn in as Labor’s finance minister this morning (May 23) – retains her seat despite Labor’s Senate vote falling to a historic low.

As of today, Australian Electoral Commission figures have Labor’s combined vote at 33.1 per cent — its lowest ever tally.

The Liberal vote had fallen to 23.4 per cent, while Pocock secured 22.1 per cent of the vote.

The ACT’s three federal Labor MPs were all re-elected with increased margins.
