A runaway horse caused traffic chaos along Canberra Avenue near Queanbeyan.
It’s understood the thoroughbred racehorse had just finished a race when it bolted from the Queanbeyan Racecourse and headed towards Canberra Avenue yesterday (September 5) afternoon.
The racehorse was later found stuck in ditch between the sound and crash barriers on Canberra Ave near Lanyon Drive, authorities say.

It took several hours for police, a Fire and Rescue team, the SES, Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council (QPRC) staff and vets from Canberra Equine hospital to rescue the trapped horse.
The incident stopped traffic and road closures were in place while the rescue operation was underway.
The horse was later treated by vets – and although sore – is alive and well, authorities say.
