A SENIOR Liberal is set to announce her retirement as Opposition Leader Peter Dutton unveils a reshuffled front  bench.

Former home affairs minister Karen Andrews will retire at the next federal election, rather than trigger a by-election.

Ms Andrews, who represents the Gold Coast seat of McPherson, was first elected in 2010.

She was a cabinet minister from 2018 until the fall of the Morrison government at the 2022 election.

The decision, which she will announce on the Gold Coast later on Tuesday, comes as Mr Dutton is expected to unveil a reshuffled front bench in Adelaide.

Senior shadow frontbencher Anne Ruston is expected to take on the Indigenous Australians portfolio vacated by Julian Leeser, who resigned from his role to campaign for the Voice ‘yes’ case.

Senator Ruston is a former cabinet minister, having previously overseen families, social services and women’s safety.
