Teens face burglary and car theft charges

TWO Belconnen-area teenagers will face the ACT Children’s Court charged with burglary and motor vehicle offences.

About 2.50am on Sunday police allege the teenagers – two boys, one aged 14 the other 15 – broke into a home in Flynn while the residents were asleep, stealing a wallet, a phone and the keys to a white Mercedes Benz 200 CLA sedan. The teens left the area in the Mercedes.

Police further allege about 6am, the teens used a credit card from the stolen wallet to make a purchase at a service station in Charnwood.

Police reviewed the service station CCTV footage and immediately recognised the pair.

The 15-year-old has been charged with obtaining property by deception, driving a stolen motor vehicle, aiding/abetting a burglary, joint commission motor vehicle theft, and possession of stolen property.

The 14-year-old has been charged with burglary, theft, joint commission motor vehicle theft, and driving a stolen motor vehicle.

Police investigations into whether additional offenders were involved are continuing, and anyone with further information should call 1800 333000, or via the Crime Stoppers ACT website.
