Horizon is a double bill opening with Kulka by Bangarra Dance Theatre alumnus Sani Townson, followed by the main work, The Light Inside, choreographed jointly by leading Māori choreographer Moss Te Ururangi Patterson and Bangarra alumna, Deborah Brown, in a cross-cultural collaboration. The Scandinavian Film Festival returns to Palace Cinemas with epic dramas, sweeping romances and Scandi noir from Sweden, Norway, Finland, Denmark and Iceland. Palace Electric, July 23-August 14.

Canberrans Chris Hammer, Karen Viggers, Andra Putnis and Fred Smith will be among the headliners at The Kiama Readers’ Festival, July 19-20. A highlight will be Books by the Sea at The Pavilion in Kiama, billed as “a spot with one of the best views of the coast.”

Tyla Cascaes will be giving a paper, Roman Empress Meets Modern Temptress: Cinema’s Fascination with Rome’s Leading Ladies’. AD Hope conference room, with a reception in the ANU Classics Museum afterwards, July 24.

• The Girl Who Glows by Zeeko and Jo Turner is a musical adventure for the school holidays made in Canberra. The Street Theatre, July 18-21.
• A Small Fish with Big Dreams is an and interactive puppet show for children and families. Tuggeranong Arts Centre, July 18-19.
• Echo Theatre’s new production of Bombshells by Joanna Murray-Smith, is at The Q, Queanbeyan, July 18-27.
• The Australian Abba tribute show Abbalanche will be at The B, Queanbeyan, July 20.
• Oh, What A Night! the Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons revue. The B, Queanbeyan, July 23.

Concerts

• Mildura-born star soprano Siobhan Stagg will perform works by Richard Hageman, Richard Strauss and Henri Duparc with pianist Nico de Villiers at Albert Hall, July 19
• French cellist Christian Pierre La Marca and Israeli pianist Itamar Golan re playing the Snow Concert Hall, July 20, with the immersive multimedia concert, Wonderful World.
• Pianist Sam Row will perform the complete Preludes Book 1 by Debussy at Wesley Music Centre Lunchtime concert, July 24.

• New exhibitions opening at Craft + Design Canberra, North Building, Civic on July 18 are Self Portrait in the Anthropocene by Rebecca Selleck, Five Dresses For A Wari Goddess by Ximena Briceno and Chasing Clouds by Jonathon Zalakos.
• Crepusculum (twilight), an exhibition by Sydney artist Anton Pulvirenti, at Canberra Contemporary Art Space, Manuka, opens July 18.
• Favorite Places & Spaces is an exhibition by watercolour artist Sandra Hendy, Aarwun Gallery, Gold Greek, July 20-August 4.
