Carjacking turns to joyriding, woman arrested

Two occupants of a parked car in Dickson were threatened with weapons, when a 19-year-old woman got in demanding to be driven around at about noon on Sunday.

Police say the driver complied, but after a short period, the woman – who is on bail for similar offences – got into the driver’s seat and drove off with two occupants in the vehicle.

It’s alleged the woman then began driving dangerously through Canberra, crossing on to the wrong side of the road and driving at excessive speeds.

The occupants escaped the car in Oaks Estate at 4pm and two hours later police found the car parked in an apartment complex in Reid and by 9.50pm had arrested the woman.

She has been charged with forcible confinement, driving a motor vehicle without consent, driving while unlicensed, possessing an offensive weapon with intent, and reckless threat to inflict grievous bodily harm.
