AN ELECTRICAL fault is to blame for a fire at the Tuggeranong Indoor Sports Centre on Cowlishaw Street.
ACT Fire & Rescue were alerted to the incident by an Automatic Fire Alarm (AFA) after midnight.
The fire took hold in the wall cavity near courts three and four before spreading to a section of the roof. Firefighters knocked down parts of the wall to access the fire. A large amount of smoke was visible outside the building.
Two pumpers and a commander attended the incident.
Ventilations operations will be conducted before crews leave the scene.
Damage is estimated at $20,000.

UPDATE: The Southern Cross Club is warning the stadium will be out of action for some time:
Canberra Southern Cross Club wishes to advise that there was a small electrical fire in the early hours of Wednesday morning 16 December at the Southern Cross Stadium at Tuggeranong .
The fire management systems in place prevented extensive damage to the stadium and the Club is working to restore power and repair damage to an interior wall.
Unfortunately, until the repairs are completed the Tuggeranong Stadium will not be available for hire.
Canberra CEO Ian Mackay stated, “We aim to have all of the repairs done as soon as possible, hopefully by early January, and will be keeping our partners and stadium users updated on the availability of the courts.”
The Club thanks our partners for their understanding as we do all we can to fix the damage in this busy time of year.
