The arboretum foundation seeks a board

SHANE Rattenbury has announced the formation of the National Arboretum Canberra Foundation Limited (Arboretum Foundation) to promote and coordinate philanthropic contributions to the Arboretum’s development.

“The Arboretum Foundation is a not for profit entity that will play a key role in advancing the objectives of the Arboretum through benevolent contributions,” Shane said.

“The ACT Government has been a strong supporter of the Arboretum since its inception and would like to secure the future of the Arboretum for generations to come. The Arboretum Foundation will serve as a significant tool for the Arboretum to achieve its goals through philanthropic means.

“Nominations are now being taken for positions on the Board of Directors; those with an ability to engage with the philanthropic sector are encouraged to consider applying. Between five to ten Directors will be appointed, depending on the experience of the candidates. This operating model is in line with industry best practice and will provide a critical support mechanism to the Arboretum.

“Directors will be required to demonstrate expertise in areas such as Law, Finance, Marketing Governance, Public Relations or the ability to engage with the philanthropic community.

“Ideally we would also like a mix of local and national candidates to apply. Being part of the Arboretum Foundation will be a rewarding experience and an opportunity to make a direct and tangible contribution to the future of the institution, as well as to Canberra more generally.

“The ACT Government will continue to fund critical infrastructure associated with the Arboretum but the Foundation will provide for additional development to continue building this iconic institution into a nationally and potentially internationally recognized institution in future.

“It is anticipated the work of Arboretum Foundation will play a significant role in shaping the future of the Arboretum, bringing to life projects outside of the Government capabilities.

“The Arboretum Foundation will complement current fund raising efforts including the work of the Friends of the Arboretum which already have a fundraising function and are a critical partner organisation of the Arboretum.

Nominations for the Director positions close on Friday 12 February 2016. For more information about the National Arboretum Canberra Foundation Limited please visit nationalarboretum.act.gov.au
