MUM-of-three Carissa Webster has been named a finalist for the 2021 AusMumpreneur Awards in the NSW/ACT Creative Entrepreneur Award category. 

Carissa is the CEO and creative director of Canberra Event Management and Styling, a business passionate about community, collaborating with other fantastic wedding suppliers, planning and transforming spaces to create lasting memories for weddings and events. 

Carissa has combined her love for creative styling with her event and project management skills to create magical wedding and event productions.

She says she’s delighted to be named as a finalist in the AusMumpreneur Awards, awards that recognise the growing number of women who successfully balance motherhood and business in a way that suits their life and family. 

Carissa and her partner Michael Roach, who co-owns the business with her, are very proud of their achievements and are particularly proud that they have been able to provide clients with five-star wedding services on and in the lead up to their special days — their ambition for excellence has successfully been achieved with receiving only five-star reviews, she says. 

They have set themselves apart from others in the industry by offering only excellence in all aspects of the business, including communication, styling, and planning.

Canberra Event Management and Styling has successfully (and quickly) become the go-to supplier for wedding styling and planning in Canberra with the majority of their clients being referred by previous or current clients, she says.

But starting an event business during the pandemic in 2020 wasn’t without hurdles. And despite all odds she says her team managed to complete more than 40 weddings and events in their first year. 

Carissa and Michael have three gorgeous and sassy girls (aged 8, 5 and 2), and Carissa says there are many benefits to balancing business and motherhood.

“My girls love weddings as much as I do!” she says.

“Don’t all little girls love a fairytale? They love when we get a big flower order to ‘make a wedding’.

“I love the freedom to be a mum and do what makes me happy and have our girls be involved in our business journey where they are learning life skills and growing along the way.”

It can be challenging to be a successful business woman whilst raising a family and for any mums considering starting their own enterprise, Carissa says: “It’s a juggling act, make sure you have a good work life balance, time for self-care and family. Mini getaways are especially important to us.”

Carissa and Michael are also very passionate about giving back to their local community and collaborating with other incredible suppliers on various events and projects.

Their team have recently collaborated with more than 10 other local vendors to giveaway a wedding package worth more than $10,000!
