COVID-19 detected in Queanbeyan sewage

THE Southern NSW Local Health District is urging the Queanbeyan community to get tested with even the mildest of COVID-19 symptoms following the detection of fragments of the virus in the local sewage system in the last 48 hours.

According to a spokesperson from the district, the presence of fragments in the sewage treatment plant could signal undetected cases in the community.

The Queanbeyan sewage treatment plant serves about 40,000 people.

The district is urging people to be alert for any cold-like symptoms that could signal COVID‑19, including headache, nausea, sore throat, runny nose, cough, loss of smell or taste, or fever.

If symptoms appear, people must isolate and get tested immediately, and remain isolated until a negative result is received.

Drive through testing in Queanbeyan is available at Seiffert Oval on Thurralilly Street from 7am-5pm, Monday to Sunday.

Queanbeyan District Hospital offers walk-in testing from 8am-4pm, Monday to Sunday, with entry at the rear of the hospital with dedicated parking on Collett Street.
