POLICE arrested two drug drivers operating stolen vehicles and in possession of prohibited weapons in separate incidents yesterday (March 22).
The first arrest was made after officers stopped a Toyota Camry on London Circuit at 4.20pm.
The Camry had been reported stolen. The police spotted a conducted electrical weapon – a taser – inside the vehicle and took the driver the ACT Watch House where he tested positive to a prescribed drug.
Police say the man had given a false name and address, and was driving despite his having been disqualified since October.
The 31-year-old Lyneham man is facing court charged with driving a motor vehicle without consent, possession of a prohibited weapon, driving while disqualified, drug driving and providing a false name and address.
The second arrest was made by officers after they saw a Kawasaki ZX6R motorcycle pull into a driveway on Ebden Street, Ainslie at 10.27pm. The number plates had been altered and subsequent checks revealed motorcycle had been reported as stolen.
Police say the rider did not hold a current licence, failed a roadside drug test and was also in possession of a taser and other property suspected of being stolen.
The 50-year-old Torrens man is facing charges of driving a motor vehicle without consent, drug driving, possession of a prohibited weapon, using an unregistered vehicle, using an uninsured vehicle, using a deceptively-changed number plate, unlawful possession of stolen property and unlicensed driving.
