Mike sprints into the ‘Olympics’ for actors

CANBERRA actor Mike Wheeler

CANBERRA actor Mike Wheeler has been selected for inclusion in the World Monologue Games, an international event featuring the best performers from 45 countries.

Ever since the event was founded  in 2020 year by Australian producer Pete Malicki in response to global lockdowns, Canberra actors have fared well in the competition and last year Canberra’s Fiona Victoria Hopkins won the bronze medal in the main professional finals.

The online “games,” dubbed by some  “the Olympics for Actors”, see international performers vying for a spot on the screen in six different categories – sprint, endurance, tigers, main professional, main amateur and youth.

Wheeler, known in Canberra for roles in the short films “Explorers Overture”, “Dagger One”  and “The Man in the Moon”, has progressed to the regional finals in the sprint and main professional (Australia and NZ) categories.

His “sprint” entry is a monologue about a newsreader who has, unexpectedly, to  present world news, and sees him play three different characters in 60 seconds, while his main professional entry is about a retiring police commissioner who briefs his replacement on child safety.

The regional finals will be livestreamed, with winners of the six different categories competing for cash prizes and a position on the podium during the global finals in late November.

Wheeler’s  performance will be streamed at 7pm on October 8 and 8pm on October 14. Details and access here.
