Labor fires up over ‘secret’ Abbott meetings

ACT Labor have accused The Canberra Liberals of holding “secret, closed door” meetings with Federal Opposition Leader Tony Abbott.

Chief Minister Katy Gallagher says it has been revealed Opposition Leader Zed Seselja has held “private meetings” with Abbott.

“Mr Seselja categorically said Mr Abbott would not be involved in his campaign, when plans to sit with him at an exclusive, private meeting were already in his diary,” she says.

The diary appointment with Abbott was allegedly leaked to The Canberra Times.

But a Canberra Liberals spokesperson says the claims are a “beat-up,” and the “meeting” was a fundraising event.

“We have fundraisers all the time, with Federal colleagues,” they said.

“Zed’s never completely ruled out involving Tony [in the campaign], he’s always welcome. But we have always said this is a campaign about local issues, so it’s not going to be our top priority.”
