Five drink drivers caught this morning

FIVE drink-drivers were caught within three hours in Belconnen early this morning in a police blitz.

Between 1am and 4am, officers conducted 50 traffic stops with five drink driving offences, including a 33 year old man with a previous drink driving record and a 21 year old Watson woman who blew a reading of 0.151 – more than three times the legal limit.

Four of the drivers caught had their license suspended and all five will be summonsed to face court at a later date.

Acting Superintendent of Traffic Operations Rod Anderson said this was an alarming result and it is clear that people still aren’t getting the message.

“Last month we removed 104 drink-drivers from Canberra roads as we focused our efforts on reducing the impacts of impaired driving,” Acting Superintendent Anderson said.

“Conditions are hazardous enough this winter without impaired drivers ignoring our messages, risking their lives and the lives of other people in our community by choosing to commit these offences”.
